About

My birding journey began when I encountered a Great Blue Heron for the first time after moving to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It rekindled my passion for photography, which had been buried for years under self-doubt and imposter syndrome. In that single moment, the Heron reminded me of the joy I first felt when I discovered an old Olympus film camera in high school and used it to capture black-and-white images of the animals and people around me. It brought back memories of how that passion grew into a career that spanned everything from creating portraits of dogs and their owners to documenting equestrian sports at the Olympic level.

With one look, the Heron silenced the depression that had taken hold, convincing me I was never a "real" photographer. It inspired me to dig up a vintage Nikkor Reflex lens and body after I’d sold almost all my equipment. I returned every evening to wait for that Heron, determined to capture the majesty I had seen in that moment.

Since meeting that Heron, I’ve photographed as much of the Lowcountry as it has to offer—including that very Heron, whose image became a personal symbol and the cover of my 2025 calendar. Photography isn’t just my craft; it’s how I connect with the world and express love. I hope that sentiment shines through in the work you’ll find in my store. Thank you for visiting!
